This is the video from the panel I was on at SXSW in 2010: 2009 Iran Election: Woman’s Revolution? Twitter Revolution? This is not an official SXSW recording but if you turn up the volume the audio quality is pretty good. The other panelists are Mona K., & Roja B. The moderator is Shireen Mitchel. It’s hard to summarize a panel like this, but on the whole I think we all tried to highlight that the American media representation of the Green Revolution as “Twitter Revolution” was obviously an over simplified analysis. While social media played a significant role, one has to understand the longer history of social media in Iran, especially as it relates to Women’s issues and political protest.
