New Media is Neither New nor Media. Discuss

For Volume 11 of the online journal FlowTV I wrote a series of columns about “New Media” studies as a discipline. The “editorial triptych” is a short attempt to congeal some of my thoughts around what it means to study “New Media,” why I think “New Media” is a poor term, and mostly importantly why I think it is important to come up with a different approach rather than adopt some of the older disciplinary study models of the traditional university. (I suggest reading them in order, they make more sense that way.)
