For Tuesday’s class read the Hartley article, in the course reader. And, bonus points to anyone who can come up with an idea of what a book burning on the web would look like (this question courtesy of Robbie). Come up with something better than an even in Second Life or WoW, that’s to easy, and write a blog post about it.

Book burning works because you’re destroying a physical medium that contains the idea of the work, and in essence you are burning the idea, the book simply works because… well… it burns.
I think in a way, this is already done with viruses. When someone writes a virus, they are in essence destroying a work of someone else, and in book burning, that is the same goal. So, if you wanted to destroy a piece of work in the computer age, just write a virus, or Dns attack a website. All of these would be kin to modern day book burning. The argument of skill to write such a program is a moot point since it only takes one person to write the code, and a whole group of nobodys to spread it around, much in the same way it only takes one person to light a pile of books on fire, no matter how many people showed up and threw into the pile.
another deep thought…
