Checking the Web

Another day, another useful web research tool: Scrutinize This. At this site you can type in a web address and check it for 152 “things.” While there is lots you can do here, the ones that strike me as useful are: accessibility and validation-you can check to make sure all your students can see the page; browser testing-if you are worried about students seeing a page on different browsers; and perhaps most useful is the WHOIS feature-which allows you to see who owns a website. This is a crucial tool I teach my students in order to determine validity of information on the web. And while all of these tools are available in other places this site collects them all together.
(Thanks Rosano for the tip.)
