A Great Example for Math Teachers

David Parry bio photo By David Parry

Next time you need an example that shows why Math matters, direct students to this phone conversation. This guy spends forever trying to convince anyone at Verizon that there is a difference between .002 dollars and .002 cents. Yet no one at the company seems capable of doing simple math. In fact late in the call he gets one rep. to admit that she is not very good at math. This is so very funny!!!

Update: The link has been updated to send you to George Vacarro’s blog–he is the one on the phone. If you have trouble accessing his blog you can still hear the audio file at Putfile (See comment below.)

Update II:: Reading the comments about this over at George’s blod, someone pointed out that this might also be a useful demonstration if you are teaching Kafka . . .the logic of the institution. His conversation gets more and more strange, read the email Verizon sent him . . .yes totally Kafka.
